Hornets to meet Harlan County in first scrimmage

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County will host Harlan County for its first scrimmage in the 2024 high school football preseason on Saturday, Aug. 10.

The Hornets and Black Bears aren’t scheduled to meet in the 2024 high school football regular season.

The schedule for the Magoffin County-Harlan County football scrimmage is as follows: 6:30 p.m.-6:45 p.m. – Team Warmup, 6:45 p.m.-7:15 p.m. – 10 Plays Each, 7:15 p.m.-7:30 p.m. – Special Teams, 7:30 p.m.-8:15 p.m. – Down/Distance, 8:15 p.m.-8:30 p.m. – Goal line, 8:30 p.m. – Junior Varsity.

Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 8. After making an appearance in the KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs, Magoffin County exited the 2023 high school football season 4-7.

Harlan County competes in Class 5A, District 8. After making an appearance in the KHSAA Class 5A Playoffs, Harlan County exited the 2023 high school football season 1-10.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Paintsville for a second scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The Hornets have regular season games scheduled versus Montgomery County (Recreation Bowl), Lewis County, Leslie County, Russell (Homecoming), Martin County, Belfry, Powell County, Lawrence County, Estill County and Morgan County.
