Hornets to meet Knott County Central in scrimmage

SALYERSVILLE — Defending 15th Region champion Magoffin County is set to meet Knott County Central in a scrimmage at the Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The start time for the Magoffin County-Knott County Central boys’ basketball preseason matchup is 10 a.m.

Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, reached the second round of the 2023-24 KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament. The Hornets compiled a 22-14 record in the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season.

Knott County Central is the defending 53rd District boys’ basketball champion. The Patriots compiled a 24-9 record in the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season.

Four games will be played at Prestonsburg as part of a panorama. The additional games set to be played during the preseason boys’ high school basketball event are Elliott County vs. Betsy Layne (noon), Phelps vs. Menifee County (2 p.m.) and Prestonsburg vs. Buckhorn (4 p.m.).

Magoffin County and Knott County Central aren’t scheduled to meet in the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball regular season.

The Hornets opened preseason practice in mid-October. Magoffin County is scheduled to host 15th Region rival Betsy Layne for its 2024-25 season opener on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
