SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is nearing the midway point of the 2025 high school football regular season and headed to Winfield, West Virginia.
The Hornets are scheduled to visit Winfield (W.Va.) for a regular season game on Friday, Sept. 19.
Magoffin County and Winfield (W.Va.) have never met.
Winfield is the county seat of Putnam County, West Virginia. It is part of the Huntington-Ashland metropolitan area.
“We are back to work and focusing on Winfield — one of the top programs in West Virginia,” Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett commented at the start of the week. “Our players are focused.”
The Hornets are 2-2. After dropping back-to-back games, Magoffin County returned to the win column.
The Hornets have registered wins over Rowan County and West Carter. In between its two wins, Magoffin County suffered losses to Floyd Central and Perry County Central. Magoffin County defeated West Carter 18-13 on Friday, Sept. 12.
Winfield (W.Va.) is 2-1. The Generals have registered wins over both Lincoln County (W.Va.) and South Charleston (W.Va.). In between its two wins, Winfield (W.Va.) dropped a game to Herbert Hoover (W.Va.).
Magoffin County continues to show improvement in the 2025 high school football season.
The opponents remaining on Magoffin County’s 2025 regular season schedule are Winfield (W.Va.), Estill County, Powell County, Letcher County Central, Pike County Central and Lawrence County. The Hornets are scheduled to visit Estill County for a Class 3A, District 8 opener on Friday, Sept. 26.
Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Winfield (W.Va.) game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
