Hornets to open preseason practice July 15

SALYERSVILLE — Poised to make a return to the gridiron following the conclusion of the KHSAA Dead Period, Magoffin County will open preseason practice at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 15.

Magoffin County continued to show improvement in the 2023 high school football season. The Hornets advanced to the 2023 KHSAA Class 3A State Playoffs.

Under the tutelage of Coach John DeRossett and his coaching staff, Magoffin County has been productive throughout the offseason. Many players have thrived during Magoffin County’s offseason workouts.

Currently, Magoffin County student-athletes are sidelined via the KHSAA Dead Period.

Magoffin County is still accepting players for the 2024 high school football season, which will kick off in August.

The Hornets’ 2024 schedule includes games versus Montgomery County, Lewis County, Leslie County, Russell, Martin County, Belfry, Powell County, Lawrence County, Estill County and Morgan County. Magoffin County is slated to kick off its 2024 season in August. The Hornets are scheduled to visit Montgomery County for a matchup in the Recreation Bowl on Saturday, Aug. 24. Michael Caba, a Magoffin County graduate, guides Montgomery County as its head coach. Montgomery County outlasted Magoffin County 21-14 in the 2023 Recreation Bowl.
