SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to visit Floyd Central for its second game in the 2025 high school football season on Friday, Aug. 29.
Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Floyd Central game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Hornets and Jaguars are former Class 3A rivals. Magoffin County and Floyd Central did not meet during the 2024 high school football season. The Hornets and Jaguars are due to meet for a non-district game.
The game will serve as a home opener for Floyd Central, which was winless in the 2024 high school football season. Floyd Central exited the 2024 high school football season 0-11.
The Hornets are carrying momentum into the upcoming matchup.
Magoffin County will be looking to notch its second straight win.
Currently, Magoffin County is 1-0. Magoffin County defeated Rowan County 20-13 in Morehead in its 2025 season opener on Friday, Aug. 22.
The Hornets met Rowan County on the road in a season opener after scrimmages at home versus Fleming County and Montgomery County.
Determined Magoffin County managed to defeat Rowan County despite being without multiple starters who were sidelined with various injuries.

The Jaguars will be looking to enter the win column for the first time in the 2025 high school football season. Floyd Central is 0-1 after falling to Paintsville in a season opener on Friday, Aug. 22. Paintsville defeated visiting Floyd Central 36-14 at Memorial Field on Friday, Aug. 22. During the preseason, Floyd Central met East Ridge, Harlan and Twin Springs (Va.) for scrimmages. Preseason games took Floyd Central to both East Ridge and Harlan. Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Floyd Central, Perry County Central, West Carter, Winfield (W.Va.), Estill County, Powell County, Letcher County Central, Pike County Central and Lawrence County.
