SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to visit longtime rival Johnson Central for its final 57th District game in the 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball regular season on Thursday, Feb. 10.
The Hornets are 11-11 overall after pulling away to defeat visiting Jackson City, a member of the neighboring 14th Region, 78-25 on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Magoffin County is 0-5 in the 57th District.
Following a loss in overtime to crosstown rival Paintsville on Tuesday, Feb. 8, Johnson Central is 13-8 overall. The Golden Eagles are 3-2 in the 57th District.
Veteran head coach Tommy McKenzie guides the Golden Eagles. McKenzie recorded his 300th career win on Saturday, Jan. 15. He reached 300 wins in 15 seasons.
Magoffin County, Johnson Central, Paintsville and Martin County comprise the tradition-rich 57th District.
Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 67-38 in a 57th District matchup in Salyersville on Thursday, Jan. 13.
Magoffin County was limited offensively when the two teams met earlier in the season, shooting only 26.3 percent from the field.
Both Magoffin County and Johnson Central will compete in the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament in less than two weeks.
Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Johnson Central boys’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m. at Paul R. Setser Field House.
