SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County will visit Paintsville for its second scrimmage in the 2024 high school football season.
The Hornets and Tigers are scheduled to meet for a preseason game at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17.
Longtime rivals, Magoffin County (Class 3A, District 8) and Paintsville (Class 1A, District 8) aren’t slated to meet in the 2024 high school football regular season.
Magoffin County is due to host Harlan County for its first scrimmage in the high school football preseason on Saturday, Aug. 10.
The Hornets, under the direction of head coach John DeRossett, continued to show improvement in the 2023 high school football season, compiling a 4-7 record.
The Tigers, under the tutelage of head coach Trevor Hoskins, posted a 6-6 record in the 2023 high school football season.
Previously, DeRossett and Hoskins coached together as members of the University of Pikeville football program’s coaching staff.
Magoffin County’s 2024 schedule is comprised of games versus Montgomery County (Saturday, Aug. 24), Lewis County (Friday, Aug. 30), Leslie County (Friday, Sept. 6), Russell (Friday, Sept. 13), Martin County (Friday, Sept. 20), Belfry (Friday, Sept. 27), Powell County (Friday, Oct. 4), Lawrence County (Friday, Oct. 11), Estill County (Friday, Oct. 25) and Morgan County (Friday, Nov. 1). The Hornets will have the week of Friday, Oct. 18 open in the 2024 high school football season.
