SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Russell for its fourth game in the 2023 high school football season on Friday, Sept. 8.
The Hornets and Red Devils will meet for a non-district high school football game.
Magoffin County is 0-3. The Hornets have dropped games to Montgomery County, Lewis County and Leslie County.
Montgomery County dealt Magoffin County a loss in its season opener, holding on to defeat the Hornets 21-14 in the Recreation Bowl on Saturday, Aug. 19.
Forcing Magoffin County to remain in the loss column six days later on Friday, Aug. 25, Lewis County outlasted the Hornets 6-0.
Following back-to-back losses on the road, Magoffin County (Class 3A, District 8) dropped its home opener as Leslie County pulled away to win 37-0 on Friday, Sept. 1.
Russell is 1-2. The Red Devils have suffered two straight losses after prevailing in a season opener.
Russell pulled away to defeat Mason County 28-8 in its season opener on Monday, Aug. 18.
But Russell couldn’t remain in the win column as Greenup County held on to win 21-19 on Saturday, Aug. 26.
South Point (Ohio) handed Russell its second straight loss, defeating the Red Devils 28-7 on Friday, Sept. 1.
Russell is slated to host Magoffin County for its first home game since defeating Mason County in a season opener.
The Hornets and Red Devils did not meet during the 2022 high school football season.
Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Russell, Martin County, Belfry, Powell County, Lawrence County, Estill County and Morgan County.
Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Russell football game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Flatwoods.
