Howard among nine honorees from UPike men’s basketball program

PIKEVILLE — Magoffin County High School graduate Spencer Howard is among nine members of the University of Pikeville men’s basketball program who were named NAIA Scholar Athletes following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

A total of 572 men’s basketball players, managers and student workers from around the nation were honored by the NAIA for their academic achievements.

In order to be named to the team, a student-athlete must have a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, attended the school for at least one academic year and appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport.

Some of these are on the varsity team and others are part of the junior varsity team. Managers and student workers are also eligible.

The University of Pikeville was represented by:
Austin Johnson, a sophomore from Jenkins;
Ethan Colegrove, a sophomore from Lenore, W.Va.;
Keian Worrix, a sophomore from Pikeville;
Keynan Cutlip, a sophomore from Johnson City, Tenn.;
Korbin Spencer, a graduate student from Sandy Hook;
Logan Taylor, a sophomore from Lexington;
Noel Kintz, a junior from Bonita Springs, Fla.;
Saul Crist, a sophomore from St. Clairsville, Ohio;
Spencer Howard, a sophomore from Salyersville.

UPike compiled a 23-8 record in the 2023-24 men’s college basketball season, playing in its second consecutive NAIA national tournament.
