Lady Hornets come up short in home opener

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County came up short in its home opener as Prestonsburg held on to win 18-16 on Tuesday, March 18.

The game served as a season opener visiting Prestonsburg.

Addison Wright pitched for Prestonsburg and claimed the win in the circle. Wright recorded four strikeouts.

Ava Hensley pitched for Magoffin County and took the loss in the circle. Hensley recorded four strikeouts of her own.

Each high school softball team benefitted from a balanced offensive attack.

Candace Allen, Kaylee Hackworth and Whitney Howard each doubled for Prestonsburg in its win.

Magoffin County scored 16 runs on 23 hits. Abby Barnett (five hits, one RBI), Kiley Lemaster (four hits, four RBIs), Bella Trusty (four hits, two RBIs), Kailyn Arnett (three hits, two RBIs), Jaycie Wells (two hits, two RBIs), Macy Williams (two hits, one RBI), Katie Carty (two hits, one RBI), Baylee Hatfield (one hit) and Maci Minix (one RBI) each produced offensively for the Lady Hornets. Barnett doubled twice while Lemaster homered.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Prestonsburg for a game in the second half of the 2025 high school softball season on Tuesday, April 22.
