STANVILLE — Magoffin County defeated Betsy Layne 14-1 in five innings on Thursday, March 26.
Addison Schlick pitched for Magoffin County and earned the win in the circle. Schlick held Betsy Layne to one run on four hits and recorded six strikeouts.
Betsy Layne starting pitcher Marissa Blankenship pitched the first three innings and suffered the loss in the circle.
Hannah Jarrell followed Blankenship in the circle for Betsy Layne, pitching the final two innings.
Magoffin County, which is scheduled to host Betsy Layne for another game on Thursday, April 23, scored 14 runs on 18 hits. Schlick helped her pitching cause at the plate, connecting for a single. A strong offensive attack for Magoffin County also featured Abby Barnett (four hits, two RBIs), Bella Trusty (three hits, one RBI), Kiley Lemaster (two hits, four RBIs), Macy Williams (two hits, three RBIs), Kelsey Slone (two hits, two RBIs), Maci Minix (two hits, one RBI) and Kailyn Arnett (two hit, one RBI). Both Arnett and Slone homered for the Lady Hornets.
Hannah Jarrell paced Betsy Layne at the plate, finishing three-for-three with a home run.
Through its first two games in the 2026 high school softball season, Magoffin County has scored 27 runs while allowing only four runs.
