EASTERN — Magoffin County scored first but couldn’t maintain its early momentum as Floyd Central won 14-4 in five innings on Tuesday, April 7.
Following the loss, Magoffin County slipped to 2-1.
After allowing Magoffin County to cross home plate first, Floyd Central erupted for a dozen runs during its initial at bat. Floyd Central led 12-1 at the conclusion of the opening inning, forcing Magoffin County to play from behind early in the game.
With Floyd Central leading 13-1, Magoffin County managed to cross home plate three times during the top half of the fifth inning.
However, Floyd Central added another run during the bottom half of the fifth inning to register the 10-run win.
Maddy Engle pitched a complete game for Floyd Central and earned the win in the circle. Engle recorded seven strikeouts.
Ava Hensley started in the circle for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Hensley pitched the first two thirds of an inning for the Lady Hornets.
Addison Schlick replaced Hensley in the circle for Magoffin County and pitched four innings in relief. Schlick recorded three strikeouts.
Floyd Central scored 15 runs on 14 hits. Engle (one hit, one RBI), Reagan Laferty (three hits, four RBIs), Cadyn Roberson (three hits, three RBIs), Brooklyn Lewis (three hits, two RBIs), Adalyn Hall (two hits, one RBI), Allie Hamilton (one hit, one RBI), Delilah Rodriguez (one hit) and Whitley Hall (two RBIs) were all productive at the plate in Floyd Central’s 10-run win. Laferty, Roberson and Lewis each doubled for the Lady Jaguars.
Magoffin County scored four runs on three hits. Schlick (one hit), Jaycie Wells (one hit, two RBIs) and Kelsey Slone (one hit, one RBI) accounted for Magoffin County’s offense.
Delivering an extra-base hit, Slone doubled.
Wells, Abby Barnett, Macy Williams and Paityn Risner each scored one run for the Lady Hornets.
Magoffin County is scheduled to host Floyd Central for another game on Friday, May 1.
