SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is a high school softball team on the rise.
The Lady Hornets edged Martin County 4-3 in a 57th District softball game on Tuesday, April 29.
Magoffin County registered its second straight 57th District win. The Lady Hornets defeated a 57th District opponent for the second time in 24 hours.
Katie Carty pitched a complete game for Magoffin County and earned the win in the circle. Carty limited Martin County to three runs on four hits. The Magoffin County pitcher allowed only one walk and recorded five strikeouts.
Magoffin County scored four runs on five hits. Carty (two hits), Kiley Lemaster (two hits, one RBI) and Bella Trusty (one hit, one RBI) each provided a lift at the plate for the Lady Hornets. Lemaster doubled for Magoffin County, which improved to 9-10 overall and 2-2 in the 57h District. As part of Magoffin County’s latest 57th District win, Lemaster, Abby Barnett, Paityn Risner and Ava Hensley each scored one run.
The Lady Hornets outlasted Paintsville 5-4 in a 57th District matchup on Monday, April 28.
Magoffin County is slated to host the 57th District Softball Tournament later in the month.
The Lady Hornets are scheduled to visit Breathitt County for their next game on Thursday, May 1.
