SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County outlasted 15th Region counterpart Lawrence County 51-49 in a girls’ basketball game on Monday, Feb. 9.
Magoffin County improved to 8-11 after registering the win.
Following the loss, Lawrence County dropped to 9-11.
The win allowed Magoffin County to halt a losing skid at four games.
Familiar 15th Region rivals Magoffin County and Lawrence County met for the first time in the 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball season.
Magoffin County shot 33.3 percent (17-of-51) from the field. The Lady Hornets made four of 17 three-point field goal attempts.
Magoffin County shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the free throw line.
Abby Barnett scored a team-high 13 points for Magoffin County in the win. Barnett connected on each of her four free throw attempts.
Joining Barnett in double figures, Karli Sites scored 10 points for the Lady Hornets.
As part of a balanced offensive attack for Magoffin County, Jaylee Reed and Macy Williams netted eight points apiece.
Eight different players entered Magoffin County’s scoring column. Kelsey Slone (five points), Jerrica Reed (four points), Emily Sluss (two points) and Bella Trusty (one point) provided the rest of Magoffin County’s scoring.
Magoffin County is scheduled host Lawrence County for a game in the final week of the current regular season on Monday, Feb. 16.
