SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Morgan County for its opening game in the 2026 high school softball season on Tuesday, March 17.
The Lady Hornets and Lady Cougars are longtime rivals. Magoffin County and Morgan County met twice during the 2025 high school softball season. The Lady Hornets notched a pair of wins over Morgan County in 2025, prevailing 14-10 and 10-0.
Magoffin County is ranked eighth in the Kentucky Prep Softball Preseason 15th Region Poll.
Several experienced players will be back on the field for Magoffin County in the 2026 high school softball season. The Lady Hornets compiled a 12-13 record one season ago.
Morgan County compiled a 5-21 in the 2025 high school softball season.
The additional teams on Magoffin County’s 2026 schedule are Wolfe County, East Ridge, Prestonsburg, Betsy Layne, Johnson Central, Floyd Central, Jackson City, Phelps, Paintsville, Elliott County, Belfry, Knott County Central and Lawrence County.
Magoffin County opened preseason practice in February. Head coach Tony Skaggs guides the Lady Hornets.
Magoffin County is slated to host Mogan County for a home game on Wednesday, April 8.
The upcoming Magoffin County-Morgan County softball game’s first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
