SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to visit Powell County for its opening game in the 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball season on Monday, Dec. 1.
The Lady Hornets and Lady Pirates did not meet during the previous prep hoops campaign. Members of bordering regions, Magoffin County and Powell County have not met since the 2014-15 girls’ high school basketball season. Powell County held on to defeat Magoffin County 60-55 in the two teams’ last meeting on Jan. 10, 2015.
Magoffin County and Powell County have met six times since 2000. The two girls’ high school basketball teams have split their previous six meetings, winning three games apiece.
The Lady Hornets compiled a 6-23 record in the 2024-25 girls’ high school basketball season. Magoffin County is expected to show improvement early in the 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball campaign. Head coach Justin Williams guides the Lady Hornets.
Powell County was limited throughout the 2024-25 girls’ high school basketball season. The Lady Pirates exited the 2024-25 girls’ high school basketball season 3-25.
Magoffin County is scheduled to host Powell County for a late-season game Feb. 10, 2026.
The upcoming Magoffin County-Powell County girls’ basketball game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
