HANOVER, Ind. — Hanover College junior Ben Lafferty was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 22.
Lafferty is a Magoffin County High School graduate.
A former standout for Magoffin County High School, Lafferty helped lift Hanover College to its first win in the 2025 college football season. The Panthers edged host Alma College 24-23 on Saturday, Sept. 20. In Hanover’s win over Alma, Lafferty, a defensive lineman, blocked what would have been a game-winning field goal as time expired. In addition to the blocked field goal, Lafferty recorded five tackles, three tackles for losses and a sack, which resulted in a loss of 11 yards.
The Panthers have the week of Saturday, Sept. 27 open. Hanover is scheduled to visit rival Rose-Hulman for its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, Oct. 4.
