PAINTSVILLE – A little rain didn’t keep the Magoffin County Special Olympics team from competing in their first-ever area track tournament, held on Saturday, April 24 at Johnson Central High School.

Local athletes walked away with plenty of ribbons and a ticket for their chance to compete at the state competition at Eastern Kentucky University this summer.

The local Special Olympics chapter is still looking for more athletes, reminding the community the group is open to any individuals with an intellectual disability who is age 8 or older. The Magoffin County Special Olympics is currently participating in track and field, with plans to participate in bowling this fall.

Those interested in getting involved with the local Special Olympics chapter can email Desirae Gasparac, the Magoffin County Special Olympics coordinator, at desirae.gasparac@magoffin.kyschools.us.
