SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is among the most improved girls’ high school basketball teams in the 15th Region.
The Lady Hornets, under the direction of Coach Justin Williams, have shown improvement throughout the 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball season.
A member of the 57th District, Magoffin County entered the final month of the 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball season with a 7-10 overall record. Magoffin County has already surpassed its win total from the previous girls’ high school basketball season. The Lady Hornets exited the 2024-25 girls’ high school basketball season 6-23.
Magoffin County’s latest campaign tipped off on Dec. 4, 2025. Abby Barnett, Macy Williams, Bella Trusty, Kelsey Slone, Jaylee Reed, Emily Sluss, Karli Sites, Jerrica Reed, Presley Russell, Karly Jenkins, Autumn Brown, Annabella Allgood and Sophia Allgood have each contributed for much-improved Magoffin County in the 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball season. Barnett, Williams and Trusty rank as Magoffin County’s top three scorers.
The Lady Hornets have notched wins over Belfry, Elliott County, Pike County Central, Shelby Valley, Perry County Central and Phelps in the current prep hoop campaign. Magoffin County has defeated Elliott County twice.
Winter weather has altered Magoffin County’s regular season schedule. Through Thursday, Feb. 5, Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Martin County, Floyd Central, Lawrence County, Prestonsburg, Johnson Central, East Carter, Betsy Layne and Floyd Central. The Lady Hornets are scheduled to host Betsy Layne and Floyd Central for back-to-back home games during the final week of the regular season Thursday, Feb. 19-Friday, Feb. 20. The Magoffin County-Floyd Central game on Friday, Feb. 20 will serve as a regular season finale.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, Magoffin County will compete in the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament.
