Magoffin County competes in Morgan County Sorghum Run

Competing against Barbourville, Betsy Layne, Breathitt, Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Harlan County, Johnson Central, Johnson County Middle, Knott Central, Lee, Leslie, Morgan, Owsley, Phelps, Piarist, Pike Central, Riverside, Shelby Valley, Somerset, Millard School, and The Well of 979, Magoffin County did well with 3 athletes receiving a medal in the Sorghum Run held on September 23! In the varsity 5K race with a total of over 100 runners, Matthew Hall led the team and medaled with an amazing time of 20:16 and 15th place! Sullivan Rice placed 36th with a time 22:47. Other finishers were Colton Boyd -25:24; Dalton Wallen-27:49, Cameron Rudd-30:52, and Levi Jordan-31:20. The team finished in 6th place overall. With 35 runners in the middle school 2K race, both Jason Yates and JP Owens medaled with places and times, 6th-8:25, and 7th-8:41, respectively. With over 90 runners in the elementary 2K race, Case Isaac was the top finisher with a 20th place finish and time of 11:09. Kristina Rudd finished in 22nd with a time of 11:28. Other finishers were Colton Dunn-12:50; Ryder Clay-15:00; Jerica Owens- 18:47; and Arabell Dunn-18:49. Coaches Tonya Ward and Ron Thacker are so proud of their team!

WEST LIBERTY — Magoffin County was among the cross country programs represented in the Morgan County Sorghum Run on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

2,000 Meter Run: 6th – Jason Yates, 8:25.16; 7th – JP Owens, 8:41.26; 20th – Case Isaac, 11:09.52; 22nd – Kristina Rudd, 11:28.94; 33rd – Colton Dunn, 12:20.73; 44th – Ryder Clay, 15:00.07; 45th – Jerrica Dunn, 18:47.19; 46th – Annabell Dunn, 18:49.83.

5,000 Meter Run: 15th – Matthew Hall, 20:16.58; 36th – Sullivan Rice, 22:47.77; 50th – Colton Boyd, 25:24.79; 56th – Dalton Wallen, 27:49.30; 64th – Cameron Rudd, 30:52.57; 65th – Levi Jordan, 31:20.99.

Magoffin County continues to compete in the 2025 high school cross country regular season. Following the conclusion of the regular season, Magoffin County will compete in the KHSAA Class 2A, Region 7 Cross Country Meet. The alignment for Class 2A, Region 7 is as follows: Bath County, Estill County, Harlan County, Johnson Central, Lawrence County, Letcher County Central, Magoffin County, Morgan County, Perry County Central, Pike County Central, Powell County.
