Magoffin County-Estill County match scheduled for Aug. 24

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to host Estill County for a high school volleyball match on Thursday, Aug. 24.

Newfound rivals, Magoffin County and Estill County did not meet during the 2022 high school volleyball season.

Magoffin County and Estill County hail from bordering regions.

Following a loss to Johnson Central in the semifinals of the 57th District Volleyball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2022 season 5-21.

Despite being limited to five wins, Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach Haley Miller, showed improvement during the 2022 season.

After falling to Lee County in the semifinals of the 56th District Volleyball Tournament, Estill County exited the 2022 season 4-23. Estill County struggled during the 2022 season after compiling a 7-20 record one year earlier.

Magoffin County, which is scheduled to visit Estill County for a match during the second half of the 2023 season on Tuesday, Sept. 26, opened preseason practice in July. The Lady Hornets’ 2023 schedule is slated to include matches versus Estill County, Johnson Central, Lawrence County, Prestonsburg, East Ridge, June Buchanan, Perry County Central, Jackson City, Martin County, Paintsville, Menifee County, Nicholas County, Robertson County, Morgan County, Hazard and Betsy Layne, among others.

Magoffin County resumed preseason practice at the start of the week.
