EASTERN — Magoffin County made an appearance in the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Host Floyd Central ousted Magoffin County from the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Tournament, defeating the Lady Hornets 65-41.
Magoffin County exited the 2025-26 girls’ high school basketball season with an 8-19 overall record.
The Lady Hornets couldn’t battle back from behind in the region tournament game.
Floyd Central shot 50.0 percent (25-of-50) from the field. Delivering outside the arc, Floyd Central shot 41.7 percent (five-of-12) from three-point range.
The Lady Jaguars shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the free throw line.
Reagan Laferty (16 points) and Jaylin Blanton (12 points) combined to lead Floyd Central to the win.
Floyd Central received scoring from nine different players. Finishing in single digits in scoring for Floyd Central were Maddy Engle (nine points), Aubree Moore (eight points), Brooklyn Sammons (seven points), MaHayla Garcia (six points), Carmen Rackey (three points), Chloe Crase (two points) and Lexi O’Bryan (two points).
Kelsey Slone (eight points), Bella Trusty (eight points), Abby Barnett (eight points), Macy Williams (seven points), Jaylee Reed (five points) and Karli Sites (five points) were Magoffin County’s scorers in the region tournament game.
Magoffin County connected on 13 of 19 free throw attempts, shooting 68.4 percent from the foul line.
