PIPPA PASSES — Letcher County Central eliminated Magoffin County from the 2A, Section 8 Baseball Tournament, defeating the Hornets 6-2 at Alice Lloyd College on Monday, April 6.
Magoffin County slipped into the loss column after reeling off five straight wins. Following the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 5-3.
Mason Boggs started on the mound for Letcher County Central and earned the win. Boggs pitched four innings and recorded three strikeouts.
Dylan Eldridge pitched three innings in relief for the Cougars. Eldridge struck out one Magoffin County batter.
Michael Trusty started on the mound for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Trusty pitched five innings and recorded five strikeouts.
Contributing out of a relief role for Magoffin County, Evan Reed pitched one inning. Reed struck out one Letcher County Central batter.
Letcher County Central scored six runs on five hits. Eldridge (one hit, one RBI), Jaden Amburgey (two hits, one RBI), Kolby Watts (one hit, two RBIs) and Jayden Wright (one hit, one RBI) provided Letcher County Central’s offense. Wright doubled, accounting for Letcher County Central’s lone extra-base hit.
Magoffin County plated two runs on four hits. Trusty (one hit), Brayden Bailey (two hits, one RBI), Mason Peck (one hit) and Aiden Carty (one RBI) were Magoffin County’s offensive contributors in the sectional tournament game.
Magoffin County and Letcher County Central, foes from bordering regions, aren’t scheduled to meet again in the 2026 high school baseball season.
