Magoffin County falls to Phelps in triple overtime

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County suffered a loss as Phelps prevailed 85-71 in triple overtime on Friday, Feb. 7.

Phelps shot 34.6 percent (28-of-81) from the field. Beyond the arc, Phelps connected on five of 19 three-point field goal attempts.

Phelps shot 88.9 percent (24-of-27) from the free throw line.

Caleigh McCoy led Phelps to the win, pouring in a game-high 49 points.

Delivering a double-double for Phelps, Kylea Weddington scored 18 points and pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds.

Accompanying McCoy and Weddington in double figures for Phelps, Kaylyn Slone netted 15 points.

Chipping in offensively, Katie Yates (two points) and Bailey Norman (one point) rounded out Phelps’ scoring.

Magoffin County shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field. Productive beyond the arc, Magoffin County shot 36.8 percent (seven-of-19) from three-point range.

Magoffin County connected on 12 of 28 free throw attempts.

Abby Barnett recorded a double-double for Magoffin County, scoring 21 points and claiming 14 rebounds.

Barnett led Magoffin County in scoring and rebounding.

Joining Barnett in double figures for Magoffin County, Macy Williams scored 18 points and Bella Trusty netted 16 points.

Magoffin County received scoring from seven different players. Abigail Bradley (six points), Emily Sluss (five points), Karly Jenkins (three points) and Maddie Salyer (two points) finished in single digits in scoring for homestanding Magoffin County.
