SALYERSVILLE — Defending champion Magoffin County reached the semifinals of the 2024 2A – Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament.
Magoffin County outlasted former 57th District rival Lawrence County 54-51 to win its opening game in the 2A – Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
But the Hornets came up short in the semifinals of the 2A – Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament.
Boyd County, a contender for the 16th Region title, defeated Magoffin County 80-72 in the semifinals of the 2A – Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Pike County Central High School on Friday, Jan. 5.
The loss to Boyd County eliminated Magoffin County from the 2A – Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament. Magoffin County exited the 2A – Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament 7-7.
Following its stint in the 2A – Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County has turned its focus to the remainder of the 2023-24 prep hoops regular season. The Hornets will enter the postseason in late-February.
