Magoffin County suffers district loss to Johnson Central

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County couldn’t overcome an early deficit as Johnson Central pulled away to win 68-33 in a 57th District girls’ basketball game on Monday, Feb. 10.

Following the loss, Magoffin County slipped to 6-20 overall and 0-5 in the 57th District.

Johnson Central shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field. The Lady Eagles shot 35.3 percent (six-of-17) from three-point range.

Johnson Central shot 66.7 percent (eight-of-12) from the free throw line.

Maddie Prater and Haylee Marsillett each scored a game-high 12 points for the Lady Eagles.

Along with the two players in double figures, Johnson Central received scoring from Karlea Stanley (nine points), Kamryn Duncan (eight points), Kaylyn McKenzie (seven points), Emma McKenzie (six points), Adyson Burchett (five points), Allie Slone (four points), Paislee Sagraves (three points) and Emma Ferguson (two points).

Magoffin County shot 38.9 percent (seven-of-18) from the field. The Lady Hornets shot 33.3 percent (two-of-six) from three-point range.

Magoffin County shot 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the free throw line.

Macy Williams paced Magoffin County, scoring a game-high 12 points for the Lady Hornets. Williams made eight of 10 free throw attempts.

Finishing near double figures for Magoffin County, Emily Sluss scored eight points and Abby Barnett netted seven points.

Aiding Magoffin County offensively, Bella Trusty added four points and Maddie Salyer contributed two points.

Producing inside for Magoffin County, Barnett secured five rebounds.
