Magoffin County to host Prestonsburg for home opener

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to host 15th Region rival Prestonsburg for its home opener in the 2026 high school softball season on Monday. March 23.

Longtime rivals Magoffin County and Prestonsburg met twice during the 2025 high school softball season. Magoffin County and Prestonsburg split a pair of games in 2025.

Magoffin County was ranked eighth in the Kentucky Prep Softball Preseason 15th Region Poll. The Lady Hornets compiled a 12-13 record one season ago. Veteran head coach Tony Skaggs guides the Lady Hornets.

Prestonsburg wasn’t ranked in the Kentucky Prep Softball Preseason 15th Region Poll. The Lady Blackcats put together a 5-14 record in the 2025 high school softball season. Bennett Allen is in his first season as Prestonsburg head coach.

Magoffin County was slated to visit both Wolfe County (Thursday, March 19) and East Ridge (Friday, March 20) during the first week of the 2026 high school softball season.

Familiar foes Magoffin County and Prestonsburg are only scheduled to meet once in the 2026 high school softball season.

The Magoffin County-Prestonsburg softball game’s first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
