Man charged with rape, sexual abuse, victim under 12

SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County man was arrested last Friday on charges of rape and sexual abuse of a minor under 12 years old.

On December 6, Michael Young, 42, of Jim Arnett Branch Rd., was picked up on an indictment warrant that had been issued in November when a Magoffin County grand jury indicted him on the following charges: first-degree rape, victim under 12 years of age (Class A felony); and first-degree sexual abuse, victim under 12 years of age (Class C felony).

According to the indictment, on or about January 1, 2024, through March 22, 2024, Young allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with another by forcible compulsion, as well as subjected a person to sexual contact who was incapable of consent because she is less than 12 years old.

Young is currently being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center and scheduled to be arraigned on December 19 at 10 a.m. at the Magoffin County Justice Center.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
