SALYERSVILLE – Visiting Pike County Central managed to pull away to defeat Magoffin County 46-38 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Friday, Jan. 22.
The loss dropped Magoffin County to 2-5.
Pike County Central improved to 1-6 after posting the win.
Productive Pike County Central shot 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the field. The Lady Hawks were 3-of-15 (20 percent) from 3-point range.

Controlling the backboards, Pike County Central outrebounded Magoffin County 47-32.
Hannah May led Pike County Central offensively, scoring 15 points for the Lady Hawks. May connected on a pair of 3-point field goals.
Recording a double-double for the Lady Hawks, Emalie Tackett scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.
In addition to May and Tackett, Allie Spears (eight points), Abigail Hess (five points), Lakota Johnson (four points), Lindsey Bowman (two points) and Sarah Justice (one point) provided scoring for the Lady Hawks.
Magoffin County finished 12-of-51 from the field. The Lady Hornets were 0-for-12 from 3-point range.
Magoffin County finished 14-of-23 from the free throw line.
Angel Mullis paced Magoffin County with a double-double, scoring a game-high 20 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
Mullis was 6-of-9 from the free throw line.
Accompanying Mullis in double figures in scoring for the Lady Hornets, Karah Lafferty added 15 points.
Rounding out Magoffin County’s individual scoring, Haley Barnett and Stephanie Helton chipped in two points and one point, respectively.
