PIKEVILLE — Magoffin County High School graduates continue to produce for the University of Pikeville swimming program.
The UPIKE men’s and women’s swimming teams met Shawnee State University swim squads on Saturday, Nov. 9.
On the men’s side, the UPIKE 200-yard medley relay team of Bryce Barton, RJ Goins, Jacob Rubado and Zane Whitaker placed third and scored a pair of team points.
In the freestyle relay, Rubado, Whitker, Ryder Slone and Ben McLaughlan finished third.
Jacob Rubado swam a 1:07.81 in the 100-breaststroke for second place and four team points.
RJ Goins finished first in the 500-freestyle by nine seconds.
Goins’ nine second advantage scored his team nine points. Goins also finished first in the 200-individual medley, edging out his SSU competitors by one second.
Bryce Barton claimed the top spot in the 200-backstroke after swimming a 2:21.23.
The UPIKE men’s team amassed 35 total points.
On the women’s side, Madelyn Smith swam a 2:30.80 and scored nine team points after taking first in the 200-freestyle. Smith scored another nine points after taking the top spot in the 500 freestyle then finished off the afternoon with a second-place finish in the 100-breaststroke.
Daylin Patrick delivered a solid showing in the 100-backstroke, taking second place with a time of 1:21.80. Patrick also finished third in the 50-freestyle.
The UPIKE women’s team tallied 29 points.
Both Whitaker and Patrick are Magoffin County High School graduates.
The UPIKE swim teams are scheduled to compete in the Centre College-hosted Speedo Mid Season Invite, which is slated for Friday, Nov. 22-Sunday, Nov. 24.
