Mullis averages double-double for second straight season

SALYERSVILLE — Continuing to produce on the court, Magoffin County junior center Angel Mullis averaged a double-double for the second straight season.

As a junior, Mullis led Magoffin County in both scoring and rebounding during the 2021-22 girls’ high school basketball campaign. The productive Mullis averaged 11.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for the Lady Hornets.

Among the most underrated girls’ high school basketball players in the 15th Region, Mullis scored 334 points and pulled down 295 rebounds during her junior season. Mullis was the only Magoffin County player to average double figures in any category.

Sophomore guard Karah Lafferty ranked second in both scoring and rebounding for Magoffin County during the 2021-22 girls’ high school basketball season. Making an impact throughout the latest prep hoops campaign, Lafferty averaged 8.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the Lady Hornets.

Junior guard Kennedy Williams ranked third in scoring for the Lady Hornets, averaging 3.9 points per contest.

Under the direction of head coach Justin Williams, Magoffin County showed improvement during the second half of the 2021-22 girls’ high school basketball season. Magoffin County won four of its last eight games in the 2021-22 hoops campaign. Following a loss to Martin County in the semifinals of the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2021-22 girls’ high school basketball season 7-24.

The Lady Hornets will return to the court for offseason workouts at a later date. Magoffin County is slated to open preseason practice for the 2022-23 girls’ high school basketball season in mid-October.
