SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County High School senior Mason Nellipowitz is headed to the next level.
Nellipowitz signed with the University of Pikeville football program during a ceremony held at MCHS on Wednesday, April 18.
Among the leaders for Magoffin County on the gridiron in 2025, Nellipowitz produced both offensively and defensively during his high school football career.
As a member of Magoffin County’s offensive line, Nellipowitz blocked for a unit which thrived during the 2025 high school football season. On the ground in 2025, Magoffin County rushed 368 times for 2,061 yards and 25 touchdowns. Through the air in 2025, Magoffin County completed 57 passes for 800 yards and eight touchdowns.
In addition, Nellipowitz contributed defensively for the Hornets.
“Mason is an awesome young man,” said Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett. “He has great size, agility and intelligence. He came out for our team in his sophomore year once we had started. In the offseason, he really took off with some of the season players. Before long, he was stacking them 45s on like the others. He improved his footwork and had a good junior season. In his senior season, he became a two-way starter and dominated on both sides of the ball. He is still raw and his upside will be amazing over his time at UPike. He is 6-5 and carries 400 pounds really well. I am so happy for him and his family. I got to meet his extended family at the signing. They are all great people. I really appreciate Coach (Corey) Fipps and Coach (Michael) Harris for recruiting our players at Magoffin County. We have four players now on the UPike roster. We will be heading to UPike on some Saturdays.”
UPike competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Head coach Corey Fipps guides the Bears.
UPike compiled a 4-6 overall record in the 2025 college football season. A successful college football program, UPike was the Co-AAC Champion in 2024. The Bears reached the second round of the 2024 NAIA Playoffs.
