No D.C. trip for MCHS seniors

SALYERSVILLE – While prom and graduation still seem to be plausible this year, the high school has had to cancel the annual senior trip to Washington, D.C., and Virginia Beach, once again.

Magoffin County High School Principal Brian Conley officially announced on Tuesday, April 13, the cancellation, noting, “The events that make the trip worthwhile still not be entertained because of COVID restrictions.”

All trip deposits that had been made with the school will be refunded in full and MCHS will announce a schedule for when these refunds can be picked up, Conley stated in the announcement posted on social media.

“We are truly sorry and share in our Seniors’ disappointment,” Conley stated.

The school is planning a trip to Kings Island for the seniors, slated for May 22, with admission into the park free of charge for all seniors, including an in-park meal voucher.

Seniors must submit a Google Form, which is on the Senior Class Hub, to let the school know their intent on attending the trip.

That information, which will be used to determine how many tickets to purchase, must be submitted by Friday, April 16.

I graduated from Salyersville High School in 1949 and went on the senior trip to Washington D. C. Gee, that was 71 years ago! Oh crap! I must be getting old. If anyone from the class of 49 sees this, I would like to hear from you. Send e-mail to edbailey@sti.net or text me at 559-676-2424.
