PIKEVILLE – Magoffin County High School graduate Nathan Perkins is excelling in the classroom and on the field as a student-athlete at the University of Pikeville.
An offensive lineman for the University of Pikeville football team, Perkins has earned multiple academic accolades during his time as a student-athlete. Along with his work in the classroom, Perkins contributed on the Bears’ offensive line. As a junior, Perkins helped to pace Pikeville’s offensive attack during the 2020 season, which was held in the spring. The Bears rushed for 1,249 yards in eight games in the spring.
Carrying momentum over into the 2020-21 schoolyear, Perkins was named an NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete. In order to have earned the award, athletes must be listed on the NAIA Eligibility Sheet, have earned junior academic status either during or before the 2019-20 academic year and achieved a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
New head coach Corey Fipps is preparing to guide the University of Pikeville in the 2021 college football season. Fipps served as the head coach at Kentucky Christian University (KCU) for four seasons. He guided the Knights to the highest single-season winning percentage (75 percent) in program history in the 2020-21 schoolyear, concluding the campaign 6-2. The Knights boasted a Top 10 rushing offense nationwide.
Perkins and his Pikeville teammates are scheduled to open preseason practice in August.
