SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County PVA has received reports of a man approaching properties, posing as someone surveying properties, but has no affiliation with the PVA’s office or any other known legitimate businesses.
Magoffin County PVA Rebecca “Becky” Allen posted the following to social media on Tuesday:
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
Be aware, not alarmed. Our office has been informed that there is a man approaching properties, measuring porches and even going as far as asking to come inside the home for pictures and measurements. This man is not affiliated with the Magoffin County PVA Office. When doing field work, we will never ask to enter your home. We will be driving our marked vehicle, and we will always state our business. We do not know his intent or purpose, however, we do encourage you to contact the sheriff’s office or call 911 should he approach you or your property.
The homeowner in the above instance called police, but the man fled before they arrived, driving a silver/light blue pickup truck. He is described as having a goatee, around 6’ – 6’1” in height and dark complexion.
Allen told the Independent that she or one of the other women in the office would always be present during any PVA surveying, or possibly Dexter Allen, who worked in the office for a number of years before retiring. They will always be in the vehicle marked as one from the Magoffin County PVA’s office, they will state why they are there and will not enter any homes.
Allen also noted that they had received a similar report back in the fall, as well, and encouraged people who see someone on their property measuring and/or taking pictures, but are unwilling to say who they are with or the purpose they’re there to the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office (phone number 606-349-2914).
