Rescue squad auction set for may 4, 5 & 6

SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County Rescue Squad is now accepting donations for the 45th Annual Media Auction, slated for May 4, 5 and 6.
Magoffin County Rescue Squad Captain Dewey Marshall told Mortimer Media Group he is hoping the community can come together to raise enough money to keep the squad operational another year.

For the 2022/2023 year, the squad reported answering approximately 850 rescue calls, providing 739,281 man hours – all volunteer – and logging 2,452 hours in training time.

The Magoffin County Rescue Squad is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing emergency aid and rescue to the people of Magoffin County.

The rescue squad auction is usually their largest fundraiser, with the funds used to pay for vehicle maintenance, insurance and supplies.

They also receive funds from the Magoffin County Fiscal Court and individual donations, as well as Community Day, which has been limited to virtual donations over the last three years due to the pandemic.

May 4, 5 and 6, the Magoffin County Rescue Squad will be conducting the 45th Media Auction, which will be covered by the WRLV radio station, 106.5 FM, Howard’s Cable Channel 15, Foothills Channel 2, and the local newspaper, the Salyersville Independent. On May 4 and 5, the auction will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and on May 6 it will run from 2 to 7 p.m. The Rescue Squad is dependent upon the money raised during this radio, TV and newspaper auction.

All donations of items, money or services are tax deductible as approved by the Internal Revenue Service No. 51-0151531.

“Help us to be ready for the next call,” Marshall said. “It may involve your employee or family member. Our reward is knowing we help during a time when our services are called upon.”

Any and all donations will be appreciated, Marshall said. To donate an item, contact the Magoffin County Rescue Squad at 349-5500. The Independent will release more information about the auction as it becomes available, as well as the auction items list the two weeks leading up to the media auction.
