Roger Lynn Fetterly,79 of Gallipolis, Ohio formerly of Magoffin County, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia after a long illness. Born March 15, 1945, at Bradley Kentucky, he was the son of Earl and Rella (Howard) Fetterly, both of whom preceded him in death.
He graduated from Salyersville High School and Morehead State University, where he attained a Master’s degree in education. He served in the Army from 1968-1970 and won eleven combat medals during his tour of duty in Vietnam. Later he moved to Gallipolis, Ohio, where he taught typing and coached baseball at Gallia Academy High School , Buckeye Hills Technical School, and the University of Rio Grande.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret (the late Claude) Couch of South Point,Ohio; brother, James Earl (Roben) of Gallipolis; nieces Donna (Danny) Crouch of Salt Lick, Kentucky and Carol Ann Schamel of North Carolina; great-nephew, Howard Schamel, Jr. of North Carolina; caretakers Sherry and Charles Sammut of Gallipolis, Ohio; and many cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Roger Lynn Fetterly were conducted Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Felber officiating. Burial followed in the Roark Cemetery at Burning Fork, Kentucky.
Military Rites were given by the Salyersville D.A.V. Chapter 15 the day of services.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.
