FRENCHBURG — Walker Russell led Magoffin County past Menifee County on Monday, Feb. 3.
Russell scored 26 points and claimed eight rebounds as the Hornets defeated the Wildcats 67-52.
Following the win, Magoffin County improved to 6-13.
The Hornets produced both offensively and defensively throughout the game.
Magoffin County, under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, shot 56.4 percent (22-of-39) from the field. The Hornets shot 50.0 percent (six-of-12) from three-point range.
Magoffin County shot 89.5 percent (17-of-19) from the free throw line in its convincing victory.
Accompanying Russell in double figures for Magoffin County, Tayte Hall scored 15 points.
Narrowly missing double figures for the Hornets, Dason Burchett netted nine points.
Contributing to the win, Jackson Gilliland (six points), Caleb Lovely (four points), Evan Reed (three points), Blake Wireman (two points) and Trey Rudd (two points) followed Burchett in Magoffin County’s scoring column.
Menifee County shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the field. The Wildcats connected on five of 21 three-point field goal attempts.
Menifee County shot 45.5 percent (five-of-11) from the free throw line.
Aiden Manley scored a team-high 25 points for the Wildcats. Manley made three of nine three-point field goal attempts.
Brevon Ricker joined Manley in double figures for Menifee County, netting 17 points.
Chipping in offensively, Caleb Perkins (five points), Easton Birchwell (three points) and Canann Fugett (two points) were the other scorers for the Wildcats.
