FORT MYERS, Fla. — Magoffin County native Presley Smith, who is currently competing for Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), entered March as one of the Atlantic Sun Conference’s softball leaders.
At the beginning of the month, Smith was leading the Atlantic Sun Conference in both batting average (.565) and on base percentage (0.600).
In addition, Smith was ranked sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference in on base + slugging percentage (1.252).
An outfielder for the Eagles, Smith came to FGCU from Indian River State College.
Smith excelled for Indian River State College over the previous two seasons. In 2024, Smith helped lead Indian River State College to a national title.
A former Magoffin County High School standout, Smith earned numerous accolades during her two-year junior college softball career. In May 2025, Smith was named to the All-FCSAA DI First Team. Smith has been among the top junior college softball players in the nation the last two seasons. As a sophomore for Indian River State College, Smith batted .397 with 8 home runs, 54 RBIs, 51 runs and 37 stolen bases in 53 games.
FGCU is a five-time Atlantic Sun Conference softball champion. The additional members of the Atlantic Sun Conference are North Florida, Stetson, Jacksonville, Queens, West Georgia, EKU, Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, Lipscomb, North Alabama and Bellarmine. FGCU competes in the Atlantic Sun’s Graphite Division, along with North Florida, Stetson, Jacksonville, Queens and West Georgia.
