Three indicted by grand jury

SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County grand jury released the following indictments against three people on Tuesday, March 30:

Adam Minix, 45, of East Maple Street, Salyersville, is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, methamphetamine (Class D felony); second-degree unlawful imprisonment (Class A misdemeanor); violation of Kentucky EPO/DVO (Class A misdemeanor); second-degree violation of fleeing and evading police (on foot) (Class A misdemeanor); fourth-degree assault, no visible injury (Class A misdemeanor); and possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor). According to the indictment, on or about October 6, 2020, Minix allegedly possessed a quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana, unlawfully restrained and assaulted another person, violated an emergency protection order and ran from police when directed to stop.

According to the original arrest citation, family of a woman called police, advising they had not heard from the woman in several days and reported her as a missing person. The investigation led KSP to Minix’s home, who was outside when they arrived, but immediately started running toward the backdoor. He was taken into custody and told police the female was not in the home, according to police reports.

An officer knocked on the door and announced himself and the missing woman came to the door. According to the arrest citation, she told police she had met up with Minix on Horsepen Road, in Salyersville, and once he got her in the truck, he took her back in the hills. She stated she tried to run, but he grabbed her by her hair and jerked her back into the side of the truck, striking the fender and cutting her left breast. She told KSP they came back to his residence on Monday and when she would attempt to leave, he would threaten to beat her. She said she was afraid to run at that point, but hoped her family would call police to look for her, according to the citation.

Minix signed a consent to search form, as well as a waiver of his rights, and KSP found a baggie of a clear, crystal, rock substance that appeared to be methamphetamine, as well as two marijuana roaches.

In two separate indictments, Robert Miller, 61, of SE Licking River Road, in Gunlock, was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon (Class C felony), and two counts of first-degree attempted murder (Class B felonies). According to the indictments, on or about July 25, 2020, Miller allegedly intentionally attempted to cause the death of two other people, and on or about July 26, 2020, he possessed a handgun even though he previously had been convicted of a felony.

According to an arrest warrant issued on July 26 last year, Miller allegedly passed a vehicle on KY Rt. 7, blocked the road in front of them, got out of his vehicle and started shooting at the vehicle behind him with a handgun. One person was struck once under the right armpit area, resulting in the bullet being lodged in his chest. Another person was in the vehicle and Kentucky State Police observed multiple bullet holes in the windshield and driver’s door of the car. Miller reportedly drove away after the shooting and police were unable to locate him until the next day.

Forrest Douglas Corneil, 56, of Jackson, was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a minor, under 16 years of age (Class B felony); first-degree sexual abuse, victim under 12 years of age (Class C felony); and possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor (Class D felony).

According to the indictment, on or about September 1 through October 22, 2020, Corneil allegedly produced, directed or promoted a sexual performance by a minor less than 16 years of age, subjected someone under 12 years of age to sexual contact and possessed matter visually depicting the sexual performance.

According to the arrest warrant issued in January this year, Kentucky State Police was contacted by a concerned family member who had observed sexual images of a juvenile family member on Corneil’s phone. KSP obtained the phone, secured a search warrant and sent the telephone to the KSP Electronic Crimes Branch, who advised there were 28 images portraying a sexual performance by a minor on Corneil’s phone. Corneil reportedly was visible, along with the juvenile, in some of the images.

I believe if more people would step up and tell things they’ve seen or heard there would be more of these things investigated here.
