MAGOFFIN COUNTY – A local food pantry is stepping up to help those affected by the flood, gathering resources needed for the cleanup and recovery.

Water Into Wine Food Pantry, based out of Lakefront Church of God on Rt. 30, is networking with other pantries, Christian Appalachia Project, God’s Pantry and more to provide food, clothing, water, household items and cleaning supplies to the people whose homes were flooded.

“It’s been a trying time,” Jeff Tackett with Water Into Wine told the Independent. “People are really struggling a lot through this.”

Tackett said they are also trying to help people hit hard in Breathitt County, where there are no food pantries.

Water Into Wine can provide emergency food boxes, with Tackett noting that they had already distributed some to flood victims as of Wednesday.

Tackett also reminded the public that they have a computer lab and can help people fill out applications for assistance.

One website he specifically recommended people visit is https://govstatus.egov.com/kycovid19, which can help people with past-due rent or utilities get up to three months’ worth of backpay.

Those needing assistance can call 606-349-6301 and talk to Jeff Tackett.
