PIKEVILLE — The University of Pikeville has named its new archery coach, an individual who is quite familiar with eastern Kentucky.
Mark Whitt, a graduate of Greenup County High School and Ashland Community and Technical College, has been added to the University of Pikeville’s roster of coaches.
“I’ve known Mark for some time now and we’re very excited to bring him to the UPike family,” said University of Pikeville Athletic Director Corey Fipps. “Mark brings integrity and enthusiasm for his sport, and we look forward to him continuing the level of success we have established in archery here at the University of Pikeville.”
Whitt has been coaching archery at the collegiate level since 2018.
Whitt describes himself as an avid bow hunter who has been competing in 3D and indoor tournament competitions since 1975 and has won many state and national titles. He has served on the board of the Scholastic Archery Association since 2012.
Prior to his time coaching college archery, Whitt was the coach at Boyd County High School, where he helped the S3DA archery program to seven Kentucky state titles and five national championships.
Before beginning his coaching career, Whitt worked in the archery industry for 25 years.
Additionally, Whitt is a USA Archery level three certified coach and level two certified judge. He is also an S3DA certified advanced instructor trainer.
Whitt will be moving to Pikeville along with his wife Anita. He has two sons, Michael and Brandon.
