Williams leads Magoffin County over Paintsville

SALYERSVILLE — Senior Jaden Williams led Magoffin County to a 10-run win over Paintsville in a 57th District softball matchup earlier in the week.

Magoffin County pulled away to defeat Paintsville 14-4 in five innings on Tuesday, April 23.

The Lady Hornets overcame a slow start to win convincingly.

Paintsville led 4-2 at the conclusion of the second inning. However, Magoffin County plated a pair of runs in the bottom half of the third inning to pull even.

Taking control of the district game, Magoffin County erupted for nine runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning.

Williams pitched for Magoffin County and claimed the win in the circle. As part of a strong pitching performance, Williams recorded 10 strikeouts.

Molly Music and Kira Ratliff split time in the circle for visiting Paintsville. Music started in the circle for Paintsville and pitched three innings.

Excelling throughout the game, Williams finished two-for-four at the plate. Williams hit a grand slam and supplied five RBIs for the Lady Hornets.

Magoffin County scored 14 runs on six hits. In addition to Williams, Magoffin County’s offensive attack featured Laney Bledsoe (two hits), Kiley Lemaster (one hit, one RBI), Abby Barnett (one hit, one RBI) and Daylin Patrick (one RBI). Bledsoe doubled twice in Magoffin County’s 10-run win.

Paintsville plated four runs on five hits. Ratliff (one RBI), Maggie Music (one hit, one RBI), Grier Collins (two hits, two RBIs), Chessa Collins (one hit) and Molly Music (one hit) each chipped in offensively for Paintsville, which suffered its second straight loss.
