SALYERSVILLE — Following a successful debut campaign on the high school level, Magoffin County freshman running back Blake Wireman finished fourth in rushing in Class 3A.
As a freshman in the 2024 high school football season, Wireman rushed 190 times for 1,415 yards and 13 touchdowns. Wireman rushed for over 1,400 yards in 10 games.
Among the top freshman running backs in the state, regardless of class, Wireman averaged 141.5 rushing yards per game for the Hornets.
Central’s Cortez Stone (1,882 yards, 30 touchdowns), Bell County’s Kaleb Miller (2,105 yards, 29 touchdowns) and Union County’s Jarren Johnson (2,682 yards, 44 touchdowns) were the only players from Class 3A to rank ahead of Wireman in the rushing column. Johnson, who led the state in rushing, played 15 games as he carried Union County to the Class 3A title game.
As a team, Magoffin County, behind a strong offensive line, rushed 433 times for 2,444 yards and 27 touchdowns in the 2024 high school football season.
Wireman will enter the 2025 high school football season as one of the state’s top running backs.
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Rowan County for its opening game in the 2025 high school football season on Friday, Aug. 22.
