SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County sophomore running back Blake Wireman is ranked second in rushing in Class 3A.
Wireman is averaging 7.5 yards per carry for the Hornets.
Through the first seven games of his sophomore campaign, Wireman has rushed 162 times for 1,216 yards and 17 touchdowns. Currently, Wireman is averaging 173.7 yards and 2.4 touchdowns on the ground per game.
The Magoffin County sophomore is ranked behind East Carter senior running back Landon Yoak, who has rushed 121 times for 1,213 yards and 18 touchdowns in six games. Yoak is averaging 202 yards and 3.0 touchdowns on the ground per game.
As a team, Magoffin County has rushed 255 times for 1,542 yards and 19 touchdowns. The Hornets are averaging 220.3 yards and 2.7 touchdowns on the ground per game.
Wireman is leading Magoffin County in rushing for the second straight season. As a freshman, Wireman rushed 190 times for 1,415 yards and 13 touchdowns in 10 games. Wireman averaged 141.5 yards and 1.3 touchdowns on the ground per game during his freshman campaign.
Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Letcher County Central, Pike County Central and Lawrence County. Wireman will be looking to deliver more rushing yardage when Magoffin County hosts Letcher County Central for senior night on Friday, Oct. 10.
