10 Hornets score in win over Fairview

ASHLAND – A total of 10 Hornets broke into the scoring column as visiting Magoffin County defeated Fairview 66-35 in a boys’ high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

ASHLAND – A total of 10 Hornets broke into the scoring column as visiting Magoffin County defeated Fairview 66-35 in a boys’ high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Magoffin County shot 52.9 percent (27-of-51) from the field in the winning effort. The Hornets were 6-of-19 (31.6 percent) from 3-point range.

Magoffin County shot 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the free throw line.

Aden Barnett led the Hornets, scoring a game-high 18 points. Barnett was 3-of-7 from 3-point range.

Joining Barnett in double figures for Magoffin County, Grayson Whitaker scored 14 points.

Nearly reaching double figures for the Hornets, Ben Lafferty netted nine points.

Isaiah Salyer scored six points for Magoffin County while Zane Whitaker and Ethan Prewitt chipped in four points apiece.

Andrew Mortimer tossed in two points in the Hornets’ win.

Rounding out Magoffin County’s individual scoring, Kaden Bowling and Patrick Damron chipped in one point apiece.

Defensively, Magoffin County limited Fairview’s looks at the basket throughout the game.

Fairview shot 41.4 percent (12-of-29) from the field. The Eagles were 2-of-7 from 3-point range.

Fairview shot 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the free throw line.

Jaxon Manning scored 16 points to lead the Eagles. Accompanying Manning in double figures in scoring for Fairview, Cody Caldwell contributed 10 points.

Tanner Johnson (five points), Dayton Tucker (two points) and Cameron Shannon (two points) accounted for the rest Fairview’s scoring in the loss.
