Hornets knock off Fairview

ASHLAND — Continuing to win on the road, Magoffin County defeated Fairview 7-3 at Central Park on Saturday, March 28.

Michael Trusty started on the mound for Magoffin County and earned the win. Trusty pitched four innings and recorded nine strikeouts.

Following Trusty, Hunter Arnett and Gavin Arnett each pitched in relief for the Hornets. Closing out the game, Gavin Arnett pitched one-third of an inning in relief and claimed the save.

During his relief appearance, Hunter Arnett pitched two and two-thirds innings and posted three strikeouts.

Eli Cummings started on the mound for Fairview and absorbed the loss. Cummings pitched five and one-third innings and posted three strikeouts.

Another pitcher, Jayden Kaylor, replaced Cummings on the mound for Fairview and pitched one and two-thirds innings in relief. Kaylor struck out two Magoffin County batters.

Magoffin County, which is slated to host Fairview for another game on Saturday, April 18, scored seven runs on nine hits. Trusty (two hits), Brayden Bailey (three hits, two RBIs), Evan Reed (two hits, one RBI), Aden Montgomery (one hit, two RBIs) and Aiden Carty (one hit) supplied the offense for the Hornets. Aiding his pitching cause at the plate, Trusty tripled.

Fairview plated three runs on three hits. Kaylor (one hit, one RBI), Logan McCormick (two hits) and Hunter Good (one RBI) accounted for Fairview’s offense.
