Hornets held hitless in loss to Raiders

GRAYSON — East Carter prevented Magoffin County from returning to the win column, shutting out the Hornets 12-0 in five innings on Friday, May 1.

The Raiders gradually pulled away for the win. East Carter scored multiple runs in each of its four at bats.

The Hornets were held hitless.

Landon Yoak pitched a no-hitter for East Carter and earned the win on the mound. Yoak recorded eight strikeouts.

Hunter Arnett started on the mound for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Arnett pitched one and two-thirds innings. The Magoffin County starting pitcher logged one strikeout.

Following Arnett, Aiden Carty and Brody Emory each pitched in relief for the Hornets. Carty and Emory tallied two strikeouts apiece.

East Carter scored 12 runs on 10 hits. Yoak (three hits, two RBIs), Hudson Nolty (two hits, five RBIs), Mason Valandingham (two hits), Riley Steele (one hit, one RBI), Colton McGuire (one hit), Landon Kitchen (one hit), Lawson Wilder (one RBI) and Reid Griffith (one RBI) each produced offensively in East Carter’s shutout win. Nolty doubled and tripled.

Magoffin County and East Carter met for the first time since the 2019 high school baseball season.
