SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County Fiscal Court extends its sincere appreciation to Herald Whitaker Middle School, South Magoffin Elementary and Knott/Magoffin Drug Abuse Council for applying for and receiving opioid related funding through our local allocation process.

Each of these groups has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing prevention, education, outreach, and recovery efforts within our community. Their work plays a vital role in supporting families, strengthening protective factors for youth, and promoting long term community wellness.

Herald Whitaker Middle School will utilize its funding to address opioid misuse at its roots through systemic, evidence-based prevention. The school will implement Pathways to Purpose, a program that combines opioid prevention education with early career exploration. This initiative includes skills training, hands on skill development, and partnerships with community organizations to help students build confidence, strengthen protective factors, and reduce vulnerability to substance misuse.

South Magoffin Elementary School will use its funding to purchase evidence based curriculum for students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. These programs will provide lessons focused on decision making, healthy coping, resilience, social emotional learning, peer influence, and help seeking. This initiative will enhance student, family, and community engagement while promoting healthy lifestyles free from opioid use and misuse.

Knott/Magoffin Drug Abuse Council will use its funding to support a project titled Accountability/Removing Barriers. This initiative will implement evidence based strategies for opioid use prevention, outreach, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery. The project is designed to reduce barriers to care, strengthen community support systems, and expand access to resources that help individuals and families affected by opioid misuse.
