SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is set to host Jenkins for its opener in the 2021-22 girls’ high school basketball season.
The Hornets, under the direction of head coach Justin Williams, opened preseason practice in mid-October.
Magoffin County, following a loss to Johnson Central in the semifinals of the 57th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament, exited the 2020-21 season 5-22.
The Lady Hornets notched wins over Phelps, Fairview and Cordia during the 2020-21 season. Magoffin County claimed a pair of wins over both Fairview and Cordia during its most recent campaign.
Jenkins, following a loss to Shelby Valley in the semifinals of the 59th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament, exited the 2020-21 season 8-16.
The Lady Cavaliers, under the guidance of head coach Wesley Bryant, registered wins over Middlesboro, Phelps, East Ridge, Prestonsburg, Martin County and Hazard during the 2020-21 season. Jenkins notched a pair of wins over both Phelps and East Ridge during its most recent campaign.
Magoffin County and Jenkins did not meet during the 2020-21 season, which opened late due to COVID-19.
The Lady Hornets are expected to show improvement early in the 2021-22 season.
Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Jenkins girls’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
